CAUSE: Autism Awareness
This campaign was created to raise public awareness in the United States about the high likelihood of having an autistic family member, helping to spark conversations, and understanding around autism.
Nascar racer, Jamie McMurray, has a niece with autism. Owing to this, Jamie was willing to let us use his story and platform to help us raise greater awareness about the prevalence of autism.
The story unfolds across various races from Jamie’s life, highlighting the unlikely odds of winning them all. We crafted an emotional and epic narrative, starting with Jamie as a child and tracing his journey to becoming a professional Nascar racer.
Everything was brought to life using paper scale models, and stop-motion animation injected the adrenaline and speed that gave the piece its distinctive, dynamic look. This technique added a sense of authenticity and excitement to Jamie’s inspiring story.
The campaign, launched by BBDO New York, gained widespread attention, with Jamie McMurray sharing it across his social media channels. Supported by a national PR push, the campaign was featured in mainstream media as well as specialist autism platforms and events, raising awareness through the personal lens of Jamie’s family experience.
This initiative is part of a broader campaign by the Ad Council and Autism Speaks, which has increased public awareness of autism by over 50% since its launch.
